Are you up for good music and a good cause? Head on over to McK’s Tavern Friday evening to hear The Black Sheep Ceili Band play to benefit Ireland-based international charity Trad for Trocaire. “We play for the love of the music and always for a cause,” said band member Marty Groody, a resident of Ormond-by-the-Sea. The show is free, but tips from the performance will be donated to Trocaire, the overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland, which works with partner agencies and churches to help combat poverty in more than 20 countries. The Black Sheep Ceili Band brings together members of two Central Florida Irish bands – Banished Misfortune and Just Twistin’ Hay – and local musicians. Artists: want your work featured at the City of Flagler Beach’s Flagler Fine Art Festival? A new fall session for the juried festival begins September 15, and organizers are now taking artist applications. Artists who book before midnight on August 31 will get an early booking discount. The festival features Florida artists and will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 15, October 20 and November 17 at Veterans Park in downtown Flagler Beach. Gentlemen, do you think you’re man enough to walk a mile in a lady’s shoes? Literally? The second annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fundraising event for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault will let you prove it, and even provide the shoes: red high heels custom made in men’s sizes for the event. Come out to walk or just to watch the show and cheer. Men can walk on their own or join a team from a local organization, school or business. Walkers pay $40 to walk in the red heels or $30 if they bring their own shoes. Men who want to use the red high heels to walk the mile-long course – two laps around the lake at Central Park – must register by September 3 so organizers can order shoes in their sizes. Portraits of land and sea will transform the Hammock Art Gallery this September during local artist Ken Waine’s one-man exhibit. Waine, a yacht captain, gathered material for his art on his nautical voyages along Florida’s coast, through the Bahamas and the Caribbean and to Cuba Australia and New Zealand. He paints in tempera and studied at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. An opening reception for Waine’s exhibition will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday September 6 at the art gallery at Hammock Wine & Cheese, 5368 N Oceanshore Blvd in Palm Coast. The First Baptist Church of Palm Coast Center for Biblical Studies will begin fall semester Bible study classes on September 9. Offerings include a class on the prophet Jeremiah, a detailed study of Genesis 12-22, a course for new Christians and an eight-week video-driven class called The Truth Project produced by Focus on the Family. The classes are open to men, women and young people of all denominations, and childcare can be provided during class sessions by reservation.
