John Collins, 47, was found dead early Wednesday morning, in his Sunny Palm Drive home, near Ormond Beach. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a homicide investigation, after first identifying the death as "suspicious."

Collins’ body was found with “obvious trauma,” according to officials. Following a Thursday autopsy, the county's Major Case Unit launched a homicide investigation.

Collins' body was discovered by a woman who lives at the residence and told deputies that she had an on-again, off-again relationship with the victim and that he had been staying with her lately. A family friend was also with the woman when the victim was found.

The woman who lives at the residence told deputies that she left the house Tuesday night and found Collins’ body when she returned home about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, with her friend.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the cause of death is not being released at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
