Sheriff James L. Manfre recently announce the Employee of the Quarter awards for the first two quarters of 2013. Employees of the Quarter are employees nominated by their immediate supervisors and co-workers for exceptional service in one of three categories: road patrol, detention and civilian. Recipients of an award are then eligible for further consideration as Employee of the Year.

First quarter recipients
Road Patrol: Deputy Jennifer Prevatt
In March 2013, while on patrol, Prevatt observed a tarp on the side of the road and stopped to investigate. Beneath the tarp, the deputy discovered several thousand dollars in construction equipment that was later determined to be stolen from a home construction site. Prevatt has been with the Sheriff’s Office nine years.

Detention: Deputy Bradley Gilyard
Gilyard has developed an ability to detect and defuse potentially combative situations within the inmate facility. He is keenly aware of the dangers that are present among a large inmate population and employs excellent officer safety skills while ensuring the safety of inmates. He had a perfect attendance record for 2012 and has been with the Sheriff’s Office two years.

Civilian: Dispatcher Nicole Land
In January 2013, Land received a call of a suspected overdose. She calmly provided CPR instruction over the telephone to the subject’s roommate. Land has been with the Sheriff’s Office six years.

Second quarter recipients
Road Patrol: Sgt. Michael Van Buren
Van Buren is a well-respected veteran supervisor who is often looks to for advice from other agency members. He has chaired Flagler County’s Community Traffic Safety Team and has coordinated many of the county and city of Palm Coast special events. He also supervises the agency’s Traffic/Motor Units. He has been with the Sheriff’s Office more than 25 years.

Detention: Deputy Colin Haggerty
Haggerty exemplifies common sense and leadership ability for an event that occurred in the early morning when an inmate attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself. Haggerty notified other detention facility personnel and then, with assistance from another deputy, entered the cell of the inmate and removed a black string from around the inmate’s neck. Haggerty’s quick response resulted in the inmate’s life being saved. Haggerty has been with the Sheriff Office three years.

Civilian: Josie Ralleo
Ralleo has been the “face” that greets visitors to the Sheriff’s Office since 2001. She was recognized for her tireless dedication, attentiveness and tenacity. She takes extreme pride in being the ‘gatekeeper.” Ralleo has been with the Sheriff’s Office 11 years.
