A man who was driving a truck with another man dragging behind it backed his truck into a patrol car when law enforcement tried to stop him, deputies say. The incident then led to two arrests.

A deputy on patrol in the area of South Railroad Street, in Bunnell, watched as a man, alter identified as John Robert Edward Stubbs, riding a bicycle. Stubbs approached the driver’s side window of a truck parked in the street.

After a short amount of time, the truck drove away, dragging Stubbs along with him. Stubbs was clinging to the exterior driver’s side door, his bare feet hitting the pavement.

The driver of the truck, later identified as Corey John Miller, traveled for approximately 740 feet with Stubbs behind him, at an estimated rate of between 10 mph and 35 mph, according to arrest reports.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. As the deputy approached, he ordered the subjects to get out of and step away from the truck. Instead, Miller put his truck into reverse, spinning his wheels before crashing into the front of the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

Miller was arrested for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a felony, and willful and wanton reckless driving, a misdemeanor.

As this was happening, Stubbs, who was then lying in the roadway, put a small, green container in his front pocket. The deputy took the green container and found a substance that later tested positive for cocaine inside.

Stubbs was placed under arrest for possession of cocaine and transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, where he remained Wednesday morning on $1,000 bond.

Miller was released on $2,000 bond. He was also arrested on July 22 for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage,
