When the Palm Coast Italian American club decided to install an AQUAlytic USA system last July, it was looking for a way to resolve hard water issues that left the club’s dishes feeling slimy and looking dirty after they ran through the dishwasher.

What the club got was not only a solution to this problem, but also a savings of $319.09 each month.
The club used to spend almost $400 monthly on a chemical to use while washing dishes to prevent spotting, said Tom Mayne, the club’s treasurer. Now, it pays just $69 monthly.

AQUAlytic USA started selling its water softening systems in December 2010. Since then, the company has seen significant growth, said Chad Deavers, director of national sales for the company. The systems have been installed both commercially and residentially in the Flagler County area as well as in St. Augustine and in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The company’s softeners work differently than traditional systems, which manipulate ion exchanges to soften water. Instead, AQUAlytic systems prevent the binding of hard scale to water molecules, Deaver said, solving the problem of hard water preemptively.

“The one aspect that’s unique to our product is we don’t add anything to our water and we don’t take anything out,” Deaver said. “That means we’re not discharging any salt or any other chemicals into the water system.”

In addition, Deavers said, his company’s systems protect the plumbing of areas of residences or businesses that are less frequently used — for example, a bathroom in a guest room.

And at the Italian American Club, the savings have not impeded the club’s quality of service.

“Our members like their dishes to look nice,” Mayne said. “There’s a quality standard that we wouldn’t be willing to lose.”

Except now, Mayne said, the same quality of service comes at 18% of the cost it once did, and by using 75% fewer chemicals in the dish-cleaning process.

“The city of Palm Coast has a very high quality of water,” Deavers said. “That’s not the issue. Our system is just for people who like their water softened, using a different approach than traditional methods.”

Also unique to AQUAlytic, Deavers said, is the operational verification system included with each installation that helps monitor the system and ensure that it is working correctly.

The company is still a start-up, but its client base is growing, despite the fact that it relies heavily on word-of-mouth advertising and customer recommendations for its business.

“It’s really starting to take off,” Deavers said.
