A Palm Coast woman who left her three children in a motel room alone and with access to alcohol, was arrested Thursday on charges of child neglect.

Erika Logan, 34, left her children, ages 1, 3 and 9, alone for more than five hours, deputies say. A motel staff member went to the room where Logan was staying at around 11 a.m. Thursday because Logan had not yet checked out.

When the staff member knocked on the door, a child answered the door and said her mother was not there. As she spoke with the child, she noticed two other children, one of them an infant, in the hotel room as well, according to an incident report.  The staff member called Logan, who said she had an appointment to take care of and was on her way back to pick up her children.

The staff member waited for 20 minutes, but Logan did not arrive, so she called 911.

At about 1:10 p.m., two Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies went to Logan’s motel room to check on the three children. Logan was still not on the scene. The deputies entered the room and found two bottles of rum and two bottles of medication prescribed to Logan inside and easily accessible to the children.

At around 2 p.m., Logan returned to the room and said she had a court date for an injunction hearing and that she didn’t think it was going to take as long as it did. Logan was arrested for child neglect.

Deputies found jewelry, a total of $1,050 in cash and a clear plastic bag containing a hard, white substance in the motel room’s safe. The white substance was submitted to evidence tech for analysis, but its identity is not yet known.

Logan was arrested in 2010 for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a charge that was reduced on a plea bargain to battery. Logan was sentenced for that charge to one year of probation.

On Thursday, Logan was booked into the Flagler County Inmate Facility. She was later released on $1,000 bond.
