Two school buses were stolen from the bus garage parking lot on July 27, a crime that was not discovered until Monday when officials tried to perform maintenance on one of them.

When the maintenance worker realized the bus was missing, an inventory of the bus garage was taken and staff learned that a second bus was missing as well.

The thieves cut the lock to the gate of the bus storage compound at about 9 p.m. on July 27, drove inside and disabled the buses’ GPS tracking systems, according to an incident report. The GPS systems were disabled at 9:09 p.m.

Security footage shows a white car entering the compound. A short time later, the white car left through the Bulldog Drive gate. A few minutes later, the two stolen buses followed. They appeared to turn right toward State Road 100, the incident report says.

Michael Judd, senior director of school operations for the Flagler County School District, told deputies that the buses are valued at $60,000 each.

Judd said whoever stole the buses would have to "know what they were looking for" because the GPS monitoring systems are concealed within the buses.

Deputies said each of the buses was marked with Nos. 20604 and 20605.
