SPECIAL: Manfre seeks name change on Fleming Drive

In an effort to erase all memory of his predecessor, Sheriff Jim Manfre has petitioned the city of Palm Coast to change the name of a street in town.

The current Fleming Drive was not named for former Sheriff Donald Fleming, but Manfre said it was the thought that counted.

“I think ‘Manfre Avenue’ has a better ring to it, anyway,” one person overheard Manfre saying at one point.

In a related note, Manfre has also fired Deputy Jason Lemming, because his name too closely resembled the word “Fleming.”
