With general Election Day less than one month away, several candidates have closed the financial gap on their competitors in the past two weeks, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office.
The latest campaign finance report showed that two candidates have raised more than $3,000 for the period of Sept. 15-28: Abby Romaine (County Commission District 2) and Craig Atack (county judge). The reports were filed Friday, Oct. 5. (In-kind contributions are not included.)
Both Flagler County sheriff candidates raised more than $2,000. Incumbent Donald Fleming (Republican) raised $2,750 for the most recent period, with a total of $23,945 this year. Opponent Jim Manfre (Democrat) reported $2,650, with a total for the entire campaign at $19,184.80.
In the race for Flagler County Supervisor of Elections, incumbent Kimberle Weeks (Democrat) didn’t raise any additional money. She has raised a total of $17,300, with the bulk of that coming from the July 7-20 period, when she raised $9,000.
Republican opponent Trey Corbett raised $172 in the last period, for a total of $6,326.88.
In the race for the County Commission District 2 seat, Frank Meeker (who currently sits on the City Council) raised $100 Sept. 15-28, with a total of $14,540. For July 21 to Aug. 9, Meeker raised $5,210. Of that, $960 came from Flagler County.
Challenger Abby Romaine (no party affiliation) raised $3,240 for Sept. 15-28, and now has $10,150. All of the $5,150 collected Aug. 10 through Sept. 28 was collected from Flagler County.
Not much money has been raised in the last two months in the race for County Commission District 5.
Incumbent George Hanns (Democrat) raised $250 in the latest period for a total of $3,850. Republican opponent Herb Whitaker didn’t raise any money in the last report and has a total of $2,551.78.
County judge candidate Craig Atack, who earned the most votes in the August primary and is now facing Melissa Moore Stens in a runoff, raised $3,675 for Sept. 15 to Sept. 28, with a total of $33,661.
Stens raised $385 in the last two weeks, bringing her total to $37,516.17, most of which came from Jan. 1 through March 31, when she raised $29,891.64. More than $23,500 was from personal loans.
In the Florida Representative District 24 race, Republican candidate Travis Hutson filed $10,025 in the latest report. In total, Hutson has raised $160,370.40. Of that, $820 (about 0.5%) has come from Flagler.
Democratic candidate Milissa Holland — who will resign from her seat on the County Commission — raised $1,650 in the latest period, for a total of $12,775.
In the State Senate District 6 race, John Thrasher (Republican) filed $9,500 in the latest report for a total of $506,065. Democratic opponent Kathleen Trued filed $2,295, for a total of $9,755.
Early voting: Oct. 27 through Nov. 3
Early voting will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 27 through Nov. 3, at the Flagler County Public Library, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway N.W., and at the Flagler County Supervisor of Elections Office, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Building 2, Suite 101, Bunnell.
WHAT’S REQUIRED
When voting at the polls, photo and signature identification is required.
The most common form of ID is a valid Florida driver’s license, as it contains both the voter’s signature and photo. However, any combination of the acceptable IDs can be presented when voting at the polls.
The acceptable forms of ID are as follows:
1. Florida driver’s license
2. Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
3. U.S. passport
4. Debit or credit card
5. Military identification
6. Student identification
7. Retirement center identification
8. Neighborhood association identification
9. Public assistance identification
