Bicycles are as different as the people who ride them. There are high-end, light-weight carbon fiber bikes, beach cruisers, tandem bikes and trike bikes. And the folks at PC Bike try to accommodate every age and need.

“We recognized Palm Coast’s need for a shop that was broader based that could cater to everyone from the cradle on up,” said Jake Scully, co-owner.

Scully’s business partner, James Clayton, focuses on bike accessories and repairs of new and old bikes.

“James doesn’t turn anything away, and that has seen us through,” Scully said.

The business has grown through tough financial times in a once thriving shopping center that now has a large number of vacant storefronts.

“We opened just after 9/11, then came the 2006 housing decline and 2008 recession,” Scully said.

Still, more people are cruising around on the Palm Coast bike paths.

“The trails have been phenomenal for us," Scully said. "More people are riding bikes."

The company has taken advantage of the new trails to add events to their services and work in some community service.

“We adopted the trail along Waterfront Park, and once a month, the Social Riders clean up the trail,” Scully said.

Twice a week, the group rides with a guide at the front and Kelly Scully, Jake’s wife, at the back. Both men say they rely on Kelly Scully and Diane Bixter, Clayton’s fiancée, to run the business.
