Palm Coast resident Aimee Kirksey has been a psychiatric evaluator for a hospital. She has given piano lessons and been a wedding planner. She has run a daycare and an Internet-based business.
“I've always been an entrepreneur at heart,” she says. “Having a storefront and offering bargains has always been a dream. I want to have a family-owned business.”
With Divine Treasures Resale Boutique, her women’s and children’s consignment shop currently in the Sunrise Plaza on Florida Park Drive, Kirksey is taking a step toward fulfilling that dream.
She opened the shop in June 2010 with Billy Kirksey, her husband and business partner. Recently, they had a discussion about what to do next, and they decided the shop still filled a niche in the community. But, to make it truly successful, they needed more space to showcase items from their 200 consigners. The shop currently sees 10 to 15 customers per day.
Divine Treasures is now having a moving sale. As of May 29, it will reopen in a 2,000-square-foot storefront at 5 Utility Drive, Suite 10, sandwiched between Colletti's and Los Amigos. The ribbon cutting will be 4 p.m. June 7, almost exactly on the one-year anniversary.
Kirksey also visited the Palm Coast Business Assistance Center for help and said Director Joe Roy was extremely helpful.
“I don’t know why I didn’t go there from the beginning,” she said.
With the new space on Utility Drive, Kirksey plans to begin renting baby gear (strollers, playpens, high chairs) to vacationers or grandparents.
And, she’ll continue to keep her family involved. Her young children, Ethan and Claire, are often at the shop with her.
“It works well for us,” she says. “I’m able to get the best of both worlds: a career and valuable time with my children.”
