+ New colonoscopy device improves polyp detection
Florida Hospital Flagler recently became the only hospital in Florida to offer Third Eye colonoscopy — a technique shown to improve the detection of pre-cancerous polyps by up to 25%.

Used during colonoscopy, the Third Eye Retroscope is an device that provides a reverse and traditional view of the colon.

“Seeing more means we can potentially find more polyps to remove,” said Dr. Joseph McKinley.

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the country. And according to the American Cancer Society, screening colonoscopies have the potential to prevent approximately 65% of colorectal cancer cases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that if every person over 50 were screened regularly, 60% of deaths from this cancer could be avoided.

Florida Hospital Flagler employee Lisa Paul, senior human resources specialist, also recently received a national “certified professional” accreditation. The test for the certification has a 57% passing rate. Paul has been a hospital employee four years.
