The heat was on Saturday, April 28, at the Chili Cook-off, the annual fundraiser for members Flagler County Professional Firefighters Association and their families.

Six teams faced off for the title, with chilis ranging from sweet to spicy to vegetarian.

Armando Castenada and Team Hooha took first place with an East Texas-style chili, featuring chorizo, steak and a variety of peppers.

“I went to college in Texas, and chili was a staple there. I’ve been making the same chili since I was 19,” Castenada said.

Second place was awarded to Flagler County Fire Chief Don Petito and Chet Laguna, of Gumba’s Chili; Tom Harrington and John and Andrew Keppler, of Clover Beach Chili, took third place.
