As the brassy sounds of the national anthem floated through the air Saturday, March 24, at the Flagler County Airport, spectators looked to the sky in anticipation of the arrival of the American flag. Against the blank canvas of the cloudy sky, three skydivers drifted into sight. Flagler County Commissioner George Hanns accompanied one diver, from Palatka Skydive, and as the silhouette of the tandem jumpers contrasted against the clouds, the sun shone, illuminating the red and white stripes of the flag that the crowd had been waiting for. The third-annual Wings Over Flagler had officially begun.

The two-day event was produced by Blue Sky Yakrobatics, Flagler County Airport and Mills Aviation Charities and was dedicated to William E. “Wild Bill” Walker, who was killed in a fatal crash during an aerobatics demonstration at last year’s event.
