+ JMJ Tobacco opens new location in Palm Coast
Owner of the Flagler Beach-based smoke shop since 2005, Maureen Vitello, of JMJ Tobacco, held a ribbon cutting for JMJ’s new Palm Coast location March 14.

The new, larger store is located at 800 Belle Terre Parkway, in the Town Center, and is anticipated to hire two to three new employees.

+ Chamber: ‘Businesses and veterans unite’
On Tuesday, March 13, the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates, with the Palm Coast Business Assistance Center, hosted two free events connecting military veterans with local businesses for employment opportunities.

A meet-and-greet will also take place 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 23, at 4101 State Road 100.

+ Curves goal: raise 1,000 pounds of food in March
Curves of Palm Coast launched its 14th-annual food drive March 1, with goals to collect and donate 1,000 pounds of food to area food banks before the end of the month. As of March 14, members had donated about 500 pounds.

In order to boost donations, Curves clubs in Palm Coast will waive the traditional $49 sign-up fee to new members who bring in at least eight nonperishable food items or donate $30, from March 12 to March 25.

Clubs may also qualify to win prizes for local food banks. Curves International will award cash prizes to the clubs that collect the most food, the clubs that show the greatest increase in donations over the 2011 drive and to two additional clubs randomly selected from all participating.

“We would love to see all of our clubs top their donation levels from last year,” said Curves Founder Diane Heavin. “But the main goal of our annual drive is to enlist the help of our members in re-stocking the shelves of local food pantries across the country.”

MediQuick Urgent Care Centers will begin offering health care options to small businesses.

Through a partnership with Radiology Associates, MediQuick will offer radiology and diagnostic imaging services to companies enrolled in its small-business plan. Those enrolled will be able to provide employees with discounted medical care and testing, such as CT scans, ultrasounds and MRIs.

MediQuick established its Small Business Health Plan in conjunction with the Palm Coast Business Assistance Center, with the ultimate goal of all local companies in the network supporting each other.

Marlin Consulting Solutions of Palm Coast, located at 389 Palm Coast Parkway, has donated a new website to the Flagler County Education Foundation.

“We wanted to empower the Education Foundation to be able to accept donations online, as well as sell tickets for events,” said Chief Marlin Jason Johnson. He added that the website’s retail value was about $3,000. “(We have) supported the Flagler Education Foundation for the past two years. We are proud to do what we can to … support education in Flagler County.”

Later this year, the company plans to donate a site to Grace Food Pantry and the Sheltering Tree Cold Weather Shelter, as well.

Florida Hospital Flagler has announced the hiring of Joshua Champion as new director of human resources.

+ Bike Doctor named caretaker at Graham Swamp
The city of Palm Coast’s Graham Swamp Trail now has a caretaker: Tony “The Bike Doctor” Libretti. Libretti and his wife have agreed to maintain the shell trail and associated plantings at the entrance to the trail at least six times yearly.

The trail begins at the St. Johns River Water Management District trailhead, on Old Kings Road, and continues north and east along the swamp, to Colbert Lane.
