This past Tuesday, I put on my white batting gloves. They were crusty and hard.

Then, I picked out the dried up clay from between the spikes of my white cleats — well, they aren’t so white any more. They are a light shade of orange now, thanks to the clay at the Flagler County Fairgrounds.

Either way, stinky batting gloves and crusted up orange/white cleats means one thing: Softball season is here!

We did lose our first game by a few runs Tuesday night, but I liked what I saw from the team in our first game back.

It should be a fun season. Hopefully we can make a playoff run and become World Champions.

Also, don’t forget about the other teams competing on the diamond, too.

Flagler Palm Coast is off to a great start with a 7-1 record as of March 1.

Matanzas was undefeated in district play until losing earlier this week. Lady Pirates coach Sara Novak has her team — which mostly consists of juniors — believing in themselves.

The program includes the Flagler Falcons team that went undefeated during the regular season last year and made it pretty far along in the quest for a national championship.

Stuart dominates Seabreeze
Matanzas sophomore Tyler Stuart racked up eight strikeouts in seven innigs of work Feb. 24, leading the Pirates to an 8-0 win over Seabreeze. Stuart finished the game with a complete game one-hitter.

SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
The Flagler County Police Athletic League presents the first Flagler Falcons Men’s Softball Tournament Saturday, April 28, at the Flagler County Fairgrounds. It will be a double-elimination format tournament, and a home run derby will also take place.

Playing rules include no base stealing; each count starts with one ball, one strike; and one courtesy runner per inning. Trophies will be given to the top three teams.

Cost is $175 per team. All proceeds benefit the Flagler PAL Falcon Football League.
