High school students raise money for breast cancer

The Future Business Leaders of America, from Flagler Palm Coast High School, recently donated $700 to the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation. The money will be used to provide mammograms and other breast cancer diagnostic services to local women in need.

“Breast cancer touches so many lives,” said Elsye Tallaksen, a soon-to-be sophomore. “The earlier teenagers are aware of the disease and how it can be prevented by screenings, the better. That has been our goal.”

The money was raised throughout the 2011-2012 school year by the Future Business Leaders, who sold cookies, shirts, pink arm bracelets and held a variety of other fundraiser events.
