The Palm Coast City Council will hold a public hearing at tonight’s regular meeting in regard to the proposed 6% franchise fee.

The proposed franchise fee would make up for a $2.6 million budget shortfall in Palm Coast’s $7.5 million stormwater budget.

The current stormwater fee is $8 a month. The 6% franchise fee will cost the typical homeowner $6.36 per month, or $76.32 annually, based on the average residential Florida Power & Light bill of 1,200 kilowatts of usage, or $106.12. The usage portion average of $66 is what gets taxed, according to the city. The 6% franchise fee would be locked in for 30 years, according to City Manager Jim Landon.

The City Council unanimously approved the 6% fee at its May 15 regular meeting. The council delayed voting on a 2% utility tax.

However, at last week’s workshop, City Councilman Bill McGuire said residents have strongly opposed the tax and it’s 30-year commitment.

Landon expects public input and discussion at tonight’s meeting.

Also on tonight’s agenda is approving a partial replat of lot No. 2 and reconfiguration of lot No. 3 in Cobblestone Village. These two lots are zoned for two restaurants — one fast-food type establishment and one sit-down restaurant. Last week, Zaxby’s applied for its site development plan with the city.

Tonight’s meeting gets under way at 6:30 p.m., at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway N.E.
