A Palm Coast man who told Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies that he fired three shots at a would-be burglar was arrested Friday evening in connection with the shooting.

Marc Barbee, 38, of 147 Brittany Lane, was arrested at 8:45 p.m on charges of aggravated assault and firing into a vehicle. He was released from the Flagler County Inmate Facility after posting $10,000 bond.

Sheriff’s detectives who investigated the Wednesday evening shooting at Barbee’s home determined that Barbee knew the would-be burglar, Stephen Metcalf, 31, of 49 Randolph Drive. Detectives charged Barbee with intentionally shooting at Metcalf’s vehicle as Metcalf was fleeing the scene.

Metcalf was arrested for attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling and resisting arrest without violence. Barbee told deputies he fired at Metcalf after the man attempted to back over him with his vehicle.

Detectives said Metcalf was actually driving away from the scene at a high rate of speed when Barbee began firing.

“These two men had a strained relationship which culminated with this shooting. The community was placed in danger by Mr. Barbee’s thoughtless and intentional actions,” said Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.

Metcalf was booked in the jail Wednesday evening and was released after he posted $1,500 bond.
