+ McGuire: Residents unhappy with 6% franchise fee
The Palm Coast City Council will officially vote on implementing a 30-year 6% franchise fee at next week’s regular meeting, but a vote won’t happen without input from the public.

At Tuesday’s workshop, City Councilman Bill McGuire said he has heard complaints from residents who are unhappy with the city’s plan to add the tax to electric bills. (The tax is designed to take the place of the $8 stormwater fee that is currently in place.)

“I have gotten a great deal of negative reaction relative to a 30-year franchise surcharge, for what it’s worth,” McGuire said Tuesday.

The regular meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway N.E.

+ Three shots fired following failed B-section burglary
A resident of Brittany Lane fired three rounds from his handgun late Wednesday night as a would-be burglar attempted to flee the scene, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephen Metcalf, 31, of 49 Randolph Drive, was arrested by Sheriff’s Office deputies shortly after midnight. He was charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling and resisting arrest without violence. Metcalf was being held in the Flagler County Inmate Facility Thursday afternoon without bond on the resist arrest charge.
