Bulldogs dominate

In sports, it’s always fun to watch one team completely dominate its opponents. Whether that means an unbeaten record, eye-shattering statistics, or winning a lot of championships, it always seems compelling. It happens in sports quite often.

We saw it this season with Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. They aren’t going to win a Super Bowl this year, but their individual performances were off the charts.

Here in Flagler County, four teams at Flagler Palm Coast High School have had one heck of a winter season.

The girls soccer team finished the season 22-4-2. The Lady Bulldogs lost in the district championship to Spruce Creek, and then in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals to Fletcher.

The boys soccer team went 11-2 during the regular season. They played Wednesday night in the first round of the district tournament.

The boys basketball team improved to 19-2 with a win Tuesday night against New Smyrna Beach.

And the girls basketball team is now 16-7 after losing to Atlantic Tuesday.

These four teams from FPC had a combined record of 68-13-4.

Whether these teams win championships is yet to be determined, but the programs deserve recognition for successful regular seasons.

Setting the record straight
Last week, I made a massive mistake when I wrote my shout outs for the Palm Coast Half Marathon and 5K. I mentioned everyone in my inner circle except one very important person: My mother, Wendi O’Brien.

I realized I made the mistake when I was eating dinner at my parents’ house Wednesday night last week. By then, the papers had already been printed. I could have changed it for the online version, but I decided to just accept the mistake.

My mom is my biggest fan. She takes pride in reading my stories each week. She knows I made a mistake, but she didn’t hold it over my head. Sure, she threw a few verbal jabs here and there, but they were warranted.

And so, I just wanted to give my mom the recognition she deserves. And for the record, she finished the 5K in a personal-best time. Way to go, mom!
