The State Ballet Theater of Russia, from the city of Voronezh, took the stage Jan. 11, for its American debut of Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet,” at the Flagler Auditorium.

The company danced the choreography of Michael Lavrovsky, which provides for a shorter, but more active ballet.

The company performed in Flagler County for the first time last year, with its production of “Swan Lake.”

“Last year, when we did ‘Swan Lake,’ (the Flagler Auditorium) was so warm,” said Igor Levin, managing director of Hollywood Entertainment Group, the company responsible for bringing the ballet to the United States.

The warmth and acceptance given to the company by Lisa McDevitt and the auditorium staff played a big part in the company’s decision to return, Levin said.

Levin founded Hollywood Entertainment Group Inc. in 1997, after immigrating to the U.S. from Russia, with the intent to bring the best and highest quality groups and programs from Russia.

Next year, he hopes to keep the Flagler Auditorium on the list of stops.
