The USTA Futures even scheduled to take place later this month at the Palm Coast Tennis Center is a go, but the future of the Palm Coast Tennis Center is an unknown.

At the Jan. 17 Palm Coast City Council meeting, City Manager Jim Landon confirmed that Kemper Sports has taken over responsibilities at the center.

Jack Carrall, a resident of Palm Coast, said Tuesday during public comment that he thought the Tennis Center was supposed to pay for itself after two years. Instead, the facility continues to lose money and cost residents money, Carrall said.

“If you’re in a private business and you’re losing money every year to the tune of $70,000 or $80,000, you either quit or raise your prices,” Carrall told City Council members.

Landon said the city is trying to change the operations at the Tennis Center so that it generates more revenue from programs, lessons, clinics and tournaments.

“If at all possible, (we’d have) a private company, private individual really take the Tennis Center and run with it,” Landon said. “That’s the goal we’re working toward, but by no means can we promise that.”
