The walls at Hollingsworth Gallery will be dedicated to members of the Southeast Coalition for Contemporary Artists 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, for the gallery’s fourth-annual Juried Members Show.

This year’s show will feature about 40 submissions spread between the Hollingsworth main gallery and SECCA Tree Studios.

Curator J.J. Graham is excited about new members who are showing, including Christian “Bent” Gonzalez, whose style mixes graffiti art with realism.

“To me, what I see as far as a members show is more of the spirit that is starting to come together,” Graham said. “I see more bravery and a more conceptual approach to painting.”

But with the various styles of work represented by members, Graham said there is a challenge in hanging the show in such a way that the works complement each other. In the end, he hopes to showcase the contemporary styles of the artists.

“I think there will be some work that’s challenging to certain people and work that is comfortable,” Graham said about the upcoming show. “But either way, you will find interesting things to contemplate.”

But for him, there is a bigger picture. It’s not just about coordinating a good show each month.

Graham said he is hoping that a spirit creeps into the local work, a contemporary style that is indigenous to this area of the coast.

Graham is hoping for an art movement. “It’s culture happening,” he said.

The show will run through Feb. 3, at 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suites 209B and 210B.
