No one said or thought that restoring the beloved Matanzas Woods Golf Course would be easy, but the Golf Group of Palm Coast LLC is giving it one heck of a good shot.
It was never going to be completed overnight, and the group knows that.
It will happen, but the workers need as much support as they can get.
In a letter sent to Matanzas people, team leader Craig Ranciato wrote: “This is our town, a great town, with lots of growing potential. I want to see the extra effort at the Matanzas Woods Golf Course, not just for us, but for the community and the town.”
Ranciato continued: “Here is our chance to start the ball rolling. Step one from me would include the following: Open the driving range, cut fairways and rough down to a proper height to start the growth process, clean out the bunkers and cart paths, start replacing decking on the bridges.
“We are making the first move. We just purchased a new expensive mower deck to start cutting the course properly. We are ready to go forward and continue to push our way through the course until it is open.”
These are good people in this ownership. Some I’ve known for years, and their word is golden. They want the course open and will get it done. But like most every project, they need a joint effort and time.
Matanzas area people can provide that with support and by working together.
Another special thrill
Jake Lester Jacoby, a member of the Sludgehammer group of Pine Lakes and Cypress, shot his age recently.
Jacoby won the Winter Sludge Tournament in a grinding four-day event. But ask him what stood out the most and he will proudly tell you: “I shot my age!”
Jacoby, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., tackled the Palm Harbor Golf Course for a nifty round of 81 on his way to the title.
About two weeks later, he almost did it again, missing by three shots at Pine Lakes.
He has a demeanor that’s soft as butter, but inside, he is as tough as nails when leading the way.
