If there is one thing I love, it's competition.

Often times, I'm told I take competition too seriously, though. Just ask my friends and co-workers, as we all played on a coed softball team this summer.

Observe THIS!, as we were called, managed to go 11-0 en route to our first coed division championship. We outscored our opponents by quite a bit, but more importantly — and as they constantly remind me — we had fun.

I say, it was fun because we won.

But after such a successful season, I was searching for ways that our office could team back up and flex our collective muscles in another sport.

So, when the city's parks and recreation department told me they are trying to get traction on a kickball league, I knew it was destiny. Last summer, the city tried the league, but there wasn't much interest.

But I think we can change that.

As long as the league stays on track, consider this a challenge: Get your business/team/friends together, make a team, and join the league. I wouldn't say that I'm guaranteeing a championship by Observe THIS!, but ... well, yeah, I am.

Can you take us down? I can't promise that you'll get to be featured in the Palm Coast Observer if you do, but I can promise that if we defeat you, I will write about it.

Games begin Oct. 1, and will continue each Monday night, at Ralph Carter Park, adjacent to Rymfire Elementary School, 1425 Rymfire Drive. The fee is $135 per team and includes five regular season games as well as a seed into the single-elimination tournament. There will be two umpires per game. Winner of the inaugural season will get free entry into next year’s league.

Each team is required to have a minimum of nine players, and pre-registration is required.

FPC baseball coach to hold meeting
Jordan Butler, Flagler Palm Coast baseball coach, will hold an informational meeting 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex, 5455 Belle Terre Parkway.

The purpose of the meeting is to find out the interest level of Flagler County baseball players. Butler hopes to start a baseball academy for players 10-15 years old, regardless of where they attend school.
