+ County approves $50,000 contract with Solodev
The Flagler County Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a contract with an Orlando-based marketing and web-design company to rework the website for Flagler County’s Department of Economic Opportunity.

“This is a really important component for economic development,” said Commissioner Milissa Holland. “It should be a top priority.”

The new website, which will be developed and maintained by Solodev, will include a new brand and up to 40 pages, the content of which will be chosen by the department. The site has an expected launch date of January 2013.

The Department of Economic Opportunity exists to create jobs, which is crucial to the health of the county, said Chairwoman Barbara Revels. The contract for the department’s new website was unanimously approved by the commission.

+ Authorities arrest fake contractor
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 43-year-old Palm Coast man Friday morning on 11 counts of grand theft after posing as an electrical contractor and duping an 85-year-old homeowner out of more than $11,000.

Adam Vatrano, of the B-section, is also charged with violation of probation in connection with the contractor fraud case.

Sheriff’s Office detective Mark Linde, working with Palm Coast Code Enforcement, began an investigation of Vatrano after the victim reported that Vatrano had charged him $11,645 for electric wiring work that was never completed. The victim incurred additional expenses to correct work that Vatrano, who also fraudulently represented himself to the victim as a licensed electrical contractor, had done to his home, according to detectives.

Linde’s investigation also involved two other contractor fraud schemes perpetrated by Vatrano.

+ County freezes Hunter’s Ridge
Flagler County commissioners froze development at Hunter’s Ridge Monday in a unanimous vote. Commissioners said the developer wasn’t meeting obligations.

The development, which sits at the southwest corner of Flagler County and extends into Volusia County, was planned with a capacity of around 2,300 residential units as well as commercial properties. See PalmCoastObserver.com for the full story.
