With the future of the Federal Aviation Administration’s presence in Palm Coast unsure, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is preparing to put the FAA’s current management training facilities to alternative use if necessary.
“The first priority is to keep the FAA in Palm Coast,” said Bob Ross, assistant director of university media relations at Embry-Riddle. “But we won’t let the space go unused.”
The FAA reports that it has extended its contract for its Center for Management and Executive Leadership in Palm Coast through 2012, and that it is currently seeking solicitation for its center beyond then. The organization declined to comment further.
In the meantime, Ross said Embry-Riddle is planning renovations to the facility to make it more functional and therefore, more appealing to either the FAA or any other organizations that could make use of the space.
“We’re not planning to sell the facility,” Ross said. “Right now, we’re exploring other uses for it, and those uses will probably include Embry-Riddle or at least Embry-Riddle collaboration.”
The university is planning to spend about $2 million in renovations to its facility, Ross said.
