+ Wellness Center opens Hammock location
A grand opening for the Hammock Wellness Center will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 4440 N. Oceanshore Blvd., by Dr. John Symeonides. It will be the company’s second Palm Coast location, the current located at 145 Cypress Point Parkway. The new office will employ six workers. For more, call 246-7596.

+ Palm Coast Sears gives $598 to Red Cross
Nationally, Sears headquarters recently gave each of its hometown stores 1% of its June profits to donate to a charity of its choice. Andrea McIntyre, owner of Palm Coast’s store, has announced that her Sears will donate $598.82 to the American Red Cross.

She also donates clothing to the Red Cross and plans to involve her store with Habitat for Humanity. Call 447-3400.

+ Mental health clinic opens shop in Palm Coast
Anew Counseling, an outpatient mental-health clinic, has opened at 50 Leanni Way, in Palm Coast.

The clinic is run by Dr. Jack Laforte, a former social worker with 20 years of experience and who specializes in gay/lesbian issues, AIDs, grief and the elderly, and Dr. Sibel Guelseren, a marriage/family therapist and addictions specialist with more than 15 years of experience.

Guelseren and Laforte each previously practiced at Atlas Behavioral Health in the B-section.

“Palm Coast is rapidly growing, and the economy is really bad,” Guelseren said, “and it causes a lot of stress … We just want to offer a more homey, a more therapeutic office feel.”

Eventually, the partners plan to expand their business by bringing on another two therapists, or psychiatrists.

+ Flagler Cats holds National Feral Cat Day fundraiser
In honor of National Feral Cat Day, Flagler Beach-based nonprofit Flagler Cats will hold a benefit event Oct. 16, at Thai Korner, on 1280 Palm Coast Parkway.

A $20 donation will include wine and appetizers. Proceeds benefit Flagler Cats, in promoting nonlethal policies to reduce feral cat populations. Call 503-4350 or visit www.flaglercats.org.

+ Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation: 200 free flu shots
Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation has donated 500 free flu shots for Flagler residents, and 200 shots are still available. Call 586-4280 for an appointment.
