Alex R. Taylor, 54, was riding a mountain bike at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, near Utility Street, in Bunnell. He was killed by an unknown vehicle.

It was the second traffic fatality in 22 hours, in Flagler County. A motorcyclist was killed at 8:16 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, on U.S. 1.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, an unidentified vehicle was traveling westbound on State Road 100, occupying the right lane, on Sept. 27. Taylor, on a Roadmaster Mt. Fury bicycle, was traveling westbound in the 5-foot-wide paved shoulder of the road.

The vehicle drifted onto the paved shoulder and struck the back of Taylor’s head, throwing him from his bicycle.

The vehicle then continued westbound without stopping.

The bicycle came to a rest on its left side, facing north on the shoulder. Taylor came to a final rest 12 feet north of the bicycle.

The report states that it is believed that something “extended out” from the unidentified vehicle’s right side and struck Taylor’s head. Charges are pending.
