The Hispanic American Club of Palm Coast began the celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month with a festival Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Hispanic Cultural Center, at 5 Commercial Court.

The annual celebration began when the U.S. Congress passed a resolution to celebrate Hispanic heritage at the national level as a weeklong event Sept. 17, 1968.

President Ronald Reagan stretched the celebration to a month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, in 1988.
