Exotic Wednesday Pepper Pickin’ Crew, of Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area, won the Florida State Park District 3 Volunteer of the Month for July.

The six-member team led by Laura Ostapko, has spent about 450 hours removing the exotic invasive Brazilian pepper tree from park lands.

Team members have met every Wednesday for the past 33 months and have treated more than 40 acres.

As a result of their ongoing efforts, both Gamble Rogers and North Peninsula State Park have been able to meet resource-management goals.
