U.S. Rep. John L. Mica announced Sept. 7 that the Flagler County Airport was awarded a nearly $600,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“The FAA grant to the Flagler County Airport in Palm Coast will be used to relocate and extend a runway at the facility,” Mica said. “This project will better accommodate aircraft, improve safety and improve our transportation infrastructure, a critical economic driver.”

The relocation and extension of runway 11/29 allows for growth, expansion and enhancement of general airport operations, including the ability to have corporate hangers and tie-downs. This federal funding, in addition to state and local contributions, will allow for the completion of the design phase of the project.

The announcement comes just weeks after the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners accepted grants for T-hangar construction at the airport. Click here to read that story.
