Having to deal with the heartbreak of homelessness, or the risk of becoming homeless, is a unique stress that weighs heavily on more families in our community than ever before. Recently, Josie C. Garcia, on behalf of her Joy & Care-Giving Foundation, has made a pledge to help at least one individual who finds him or herself in such dire circumstances.

At the October meeting of the Adult and Community Education Advisory Council at Flagler Technical Institute, Garcia announced that she will be awarding a scholarship to help a homeless at-risk individual to pursue career training at Flagler Technical Institute. Garcia has donated this scholarship in tribute to Veronica Thornton, Adult Education’s Make-It Take-It program manager, in appreciation for the work she has done to assist the Joy & Care-Giving Foundation to provide technology and quality education to students in the Philippines.
