On Commissioner Barbara Revels’ request, the county’s severance plan for employee layoff has been tweaked.
“I found it odd,” she said, “that we would give two month’s severance pay, plus four month’s health insurance, for someone who’s only been working here two months.”
In the current plan, which has been established for the past three years in accordance with state statutes, all laid-off employees who have worked for the county from zero to three years would receive the same severance benefits.
“We haven’t had a whole lot, to be completely honest, in the 0-12 months (category),” said County Administrator Craig Coffey. “So it’s really been a non-issue for us.”
After tweaks, employees who have only worked for the county from zero to twelve months will now receive one month’s severance pay and two month’s health insurance benefits.
