+ Ashley Manford commits to Coastal Carolina University
Matanzas senior Ashley Manford has verbally committed to play lacrosse at Coastal Carolina University, a Division I school in Conway, S.C. Costal Carolina is about nine miles from Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Manford is the second female athlete from Matanzas High School to commit to play Division I sports.

“I am very proud of Ashley and her accomplishments,” said Matanzas coach Bill Hanrahan. “She came to me her sophomore year with a lot of athletic ability, and she wanted to try something different. She immediately fit in and has worked very hard over the past two years to get to where she is today.”

The Matanzas High School cross-country team competed Oct. 15, in the Pre-State Invitational, in Dade City.

The boys team, which competed in the elite level (the highest level at the meet), placed 25th overall. The girls team competed in the middle level, the invitational level, and finished 18th overall.

Hannah Loder was the overall champion of the invitational race, finishing in 18 minutes, 51 seconds.

Also, Indian Trails Middle School program, coached by Dan Matuszczak and supported by the Police Athletic League, had two runners qualify for the Middle School State Championship.

Tristan Kraus finishied 5th in 12:24 and Anna Walls finished 11th in 14:25.

+ FPC cross-country boys win Little Everglades Invitational
The Flagler Palm Coast cross-country team competed Oct. 15 at the Little Everglades Pre-State Invitational.

The boys varsity team won the invitational level, with runners 1 through 6 finishing between 17 minutes, 3 seconds and 17:33. Five had a season best.

The girls team, which is beginning to get healthy from several key injuries, placed fifth in the open race. Freshman Josie Davis finished in seventh place, leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs.
