The following is adapted from a press release from the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates:

Peggy Heiser, vice president of the Tourist Development Council for the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates, will be leaving her position as of Oct. 28.

“All good things must come to an end and so, this must, too,” said Heiser. “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of the advancement the chamber tourism team and the Flagler County Tourist Development Council have made in marketing Flagler County as a desirable tourism destination.”

Heiser, who joined the chamber in 2005, told her colleagues and two tourism team staffers, Jaffy Lee and Laura Gamba, she has accepted another marketing position that will bring new adventure and challenge to her career and, most importantly, bring her closer to home.

Milissa Holland, county commissioner and chairwoman of the Tourist Development Council said, “Peggy was instrumental in placing a face on tourism in Flagler County. She has elevated the conversation within the community, recognizing tourism as a significant economic driver. Although she will be missed, her fingerprints will remain on many initiatives she implemented during her tenure. I wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors.”

Heiser earned her certification as a Tourism Marketing Professional through S.E. Tourism Association and served on the Florida Association of Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board, Florida’s First Coast of Golf Board, North Florida Hotel and Lodging Association Board and a variety of Visit Florida planning committees.

During her tenure with the chamber, bed tax collections increased from $818,448 in 2006 to a projected $1.01 million in 2011, with the most recent collection (for August) being the highest ever recorded. In 2011, the demand for rooms was up 15% over 2010, and 75,000 unique visitors came to the website, www.visitflagler.org, in fiscal year 2011.

The County Commission contracts with the chamber to provide marketing consultation to drive the county’s tourism marketing efforts. The tourism team led by Heiser reports to the Flagler County Tourist Development Council, the advisory council to the county.

Lea Stokes, chairwoman of the chamber, said, “Peggy set high standards for our organization. We appreciate the numerous contributions she made to ‘put Flagler County on the map’ and to position tourism as an important economic contributor to our local economy. She will be missed greatly.”

With the announcement of Heiser’s resignation, the chamber will begin to search for a replacement. A complete job description and candidate qualification requirements will be posted on Employflorida.com Monday, Oct. 23. All employment-related questions, phone calls and resumes should be directed to 386-586-5171.
