A public meeting to gather input on a proposed county ordinance to regulate animal sanctuaries in unincorporated Flagler is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Emergency Operations Center. Residents, current sanctuary operators and those with expertise in animal care are invited to attend.

County staff is seeking ideas about the ordinance from those who attended the county commission’s Oct. 3 meeting, when the ordinance was initially discussed. New drafts of the standards are planned to be presented based on the comments received.

It is likely several meetings will be necessary with stakeholders to redraft the proposed standards in the ordinance.

The Emergency Operations Center is located behind the Flagler County Government Center, at 1769 East Moody Blvd. in Bunnell.

Advance ordinance suggestions can be submitted to the county administrator’s office through email, [email protected], or by phone, 313-4000.
