County-specific data show the number of housing units in Flagler County increased by more than 200% in 20 years.

The U.S. Census Bureau released county-specific data Oct. 26, with in-depth looks at demographics, economy and government.

According to the data, the number of housing units in Flagler County increased nearly three times from 1999 to 2010.

Also, using poverty data from 1999 and population data from 2000, Flagler’s poverty rate was 8.6%, compared to 12.2% in Florida.

The data also show that 24.5% of Flagler County’s population was 65 years and older. Florida’s percentage is 17.3%. In St. Johns County, 15.7% of the population is 65 years and older, compared with 21.1% in Volusia County.

Flagler County’s population per square mile in 2010 was 197.1. St. Johns County was 316.4 and Volusia 449.2. Florida’s number was 350.6.
