Results of tests on water samples from the city of Palm Coast's elevated storage tank on Interstate 95 show no contamination, according to the Health Department and the Water Utility's contracted laboratory.

The tank was vandalized May 17, and the city immediately isolated the elevated tank water from the main system. Water samples were then collected as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Department of Environmental Protection reviewed the tests and saw no signs of contamination. Now, the city is performing routine water tank maintenance.

"The utility’s maintenance contractor will be performing a scheduled wash out, disinfection, and will also be installing an active mixing system upgrade to the tank before it is returned to service," said Brian Matthews, environmental specialist for the city.

"The maintenance and installation process should take about a week, and the active mixing system will greatly improve water quality by eliminating temperature stratification in the tank," Matthews said.
