The third day of Flagler County’s Economic Summit came to a close Friday, March 18, at the Agricultural Extension Center, with a near hour-long forum on when to schedule a fourth meeting.
No budget or funding issues were discussed.
It was a day of conceptualizing and impatience, with more than 60 representatives — elected and nonelected — from each municipality in attendance. Summit Facilitator Don Upton, president of Fairfield Index Inc., played mediator, and sometimes motivational speaker, advising that the Flagler County “family” (summit attendees) continue working together.
“I’ve had a real hard time today contributing,” School Board member Colleen Conklin said, mid-meeting. “And I’ve been frustrated with (facilitator Upton) sometimes and thought, ‘Hey, give me (some) darn answers!’ … But the fact is he’s a professional.”
For nearly 27 hours of facilitation, the county paid Upton a total of $21,000.
Four subcommittees were formed to workshop ideas on promoting 1) exceptional customer service; 2) linked, responsive talent delivery systems; 3) maximized regionalism; and 4) strong target-industry investments. Click here for a recap from the previous meeting.
Representatives will reconvene Friday, May 13, to discuss outlines and cost analyses with their respective project groups.
Upton closed by praising the “team” Flagler County put together, announcing that it will no doubt do “great things” for its community. The summit ended with applause.
