Revisions to the gas tax rate were approved June 6 by the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, based on changes to the population and county roadway inventory. According to state requirement, counties must notify the Florida Department of Revenue of any rate revisions prior to July 1 of each year.

Since 2010, Palm Coast reported 18.67 added lane roadway miles, for a total of 1,169.43 miles citywide. Unincorporated Flagler County added 2.9 miles, within the Ashford Lakes subdivision, for a total of 435.25 miles. The cities of Bunnell and Flagler Beach reported no changes to their roadway inventories within the last year, and still total, respectively, 42.329 miles and 61.435 miles.

After reformulation, Palm Coast represents 78.56% of the county’s population and 68.28% of its lane miles and will receive about 73% of all gas tax collected in Flagler— a fraction higher than its percentage distribution the previous term.

Unincorporated Flagler will collect 19.5%; Flagler Beach will collect 4.11%; Bunnell will collect 2.64%; and Beverly Beach will collect .3%.

According to state law, all gas tax-related revenue must go toward roadway operations and projects.

The total of all local gasoline taxes levied in Flagler County (county and municipalities) totals $0.11 per gallon. St. John’s County has a rate of $0.10 per gallon. Volusia and Putnam counties each have rates of $0.16 per gallon.
