Ash fall could occur in Palm Coast because of the Espanola fire, officials said Monday.

Here’s the latest update from the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center as of 1 p.m. Monday:

"Smoke from the Espanola fire is still drifting across parts of Flagler County because of a southwest wind.

"Smoke may be heavy and ash fall may occur at times throughout the afternoon.

"Only call 911 if you see flames or a smoke plume. Those who have breathing problems may wish to remain inside until the smoke clears. Afternoon sea breezes should push smoke away later this afternoon."

According to Weather.com, easterly winds blowing from 10 to 20 mph could take place Tuesday, which could affect the 1,500-acre fire, which is approximately seven miles west of Palm Coast.

Winds would have to blow for "a couple of days" to shift the fire and threaten the area, according to Emergency Operations Manager Troy Harper. He said that so far, the fire has expanded two miles to the west, away from and not toward Palm Coast.
