The following is adapted from the 10 a.m. Sunday, June 5, update from www.FlaglerEmergency.com:

At this time no evacuations are needed. However, conditions may require the occasional road closure due to poor visibility.

The Espanola Fire has grown to 900 acres and is 18% contained.

This is currently the largest fire in Flagler County and is located a few miles northwest of Espanola or about 7 to 8 miles west of Palm Coast. This fire was also about 5 miles north of Mondex/Daytona North. It has been burning very slowly to the west in a swampy area. Crews conducted back burns last night to help keep the fire from making a run and this has added to the acreage.

This fire is in a rural area of the county and poses no threats to any populated areas at this time; however, it is producing a large smoke plume that will be easily seen across the county. Drift smoke from this fire may be noted around the county, pending wind direction and weather conditions.

Two other smaller fires are also burning in rural northwest Flagler County: one 52 acres and the other 17 acres and are contained but may try to jump out of the lines at any time. Fire crews are activity working these fires.

The White Eagle Fire, located near Korona, remains unchanged at about 120 acres burned. There are lines around this fire, and it is now 80% contained and is being mopped up.

This is the closest fire to a populated area, and fire crews remain on scene. Fire crews from Palm Coast are now conducting mop up operations on this fire.

There are also 12 other smaller fires being monitored by fire crews throughout the county that were fully contained. Fire crews from various agencies including Division of Forestry, Flagler County Fire Rescue and Public Works, Palm Coast, Bunnell, Rayonier Corp. and Flagler Beach, as well as FireFlight, are being deployed to the various fires as needed to conduct suppression activities. Flagler County Emergency Management is providing logistical support and public information as needed.

Smoke and large smoke plumes may be noted and widely seen in the area. Smoke may be quite widespread at times, especially during the overnight and early morning hours. Persons driving should be aware of rapidly changing visibilities. Roads may be occasionally closed due to smoke.

Please don't call 911 unless you actually see flames outside the lines or a new fire.
