Central Avenue was filled with beds Saturday, Dec. 3, in Flagler Beach. But there was no sleeping allowed; they were preparing to race.

The third Flagler Fun Coast Bed Race allowed 15 teams the chance to build and decorate a bed to be raced down the street, completing four pit stop challenges along the way.

The Jamaican Bobsled Team, representing High Tides at Snack Jack, blew past the competition, winning the race with a time of four minutes, 21 seconds.

But speed and agility were not the only qualities under scrutiny. Judges from the community voted on awards of most beautiful bed, presented to the Flagler Palm Coast High School Key Club; most creative, presented to the Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club; funniest, presented to Island Hoppers; and “What were you thinking?” presented to the city of Flagler Beach.

Funds raised from the event will feed hungry families and will fund the I Can Read reading/mentor program.
