Skating in Central Park, Palm Coast style

Ice skating in Central Park is a tradition in New York City, and now it can be one in Palm Coast, too.

The city will be setting up an ice skating rink this holiday season starting Wednesday, Dec. 1, and running through Sunday, Jan. 2, at Central Park in Town Center.

The synthetic ice rink will be located at the front entrance, about one-half-mile north of Flagler Palm Coast High School, at Bulldog Drive.

Here’s the kicker: No ice skates allowed. Special skates will be provided with admission: $8 for adults and $5 for children 13 and younger.

The rink will be open during all other events happening in Town Center, including Rotary’s Fantasy Lights display and the city’s Holiday Fantasy Fest.

Holiday Fantasy Fest
Holiday Fantasy Fest, presented by parks and recreation, will be 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, and feature live entertainment by Day Break Band, Palm Coast Community Band and Low Profile.

There will also be arts and crafts all day and the opportunity to take pictures with Santa 2 to 5:30 p.m.

Starlight Parade
Following Fantasy Fest will be the the annual Holiday Starlight Parade starting at 6 p.m. Dec. 11. Parking is available on the street in Town Center, as well as in a designated empty lot at the corner of Bulldog Drive and Central Avenue. About 10,000 people attended last year.

This 80-float parade will feature local marching bands and other community groups. There will also be a parade, which will produce four awards: best of parade, best float, best marching band and best-decorated vehicle.

Santa will make another appearance, riding in style in a city fire truck to conclude the parade.
