Grand Art Gallery appoints new curator

Grand Living Realty announcing the opening of The Grand Art Gallery with Jan Jackson serving as curator, according to a press release.

Jackson, a local resident, artist, art instructor and educator, previously owned a gallery in New Mexico. She volunteers for the Palm Coast Arts Foundation and seeks to promote the area’s artists.

“Florida is home to many retirees, but artists never retire,” Jackson said in the news release. “When they move to this state, they are already recognized, accomplished and highly talented. They set up their studios and continue to do what they have to do: Create.”

During July and August, the Grand Art Gallery, located at 2298 Colbert Lane, will recognize the work of ML Forsythe, who recently died, leaving behind a vast body of work, including award-winning watercolors.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library seeks funding

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Volusia/Flagler counties is actively seeking the community’s help to provide funding for the upcoming year. The chapter, launched in 2012, serves more than 3,500 children up to age 5 by mailing a free book each month.

The chapter is a division of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library started in 1995 by celebrity Dolly Parton.

With its massive expansion in just a few short years, the organization is seeking to receive donations from the local community in an effort to continue to provide this service to community children and families. The organization will be holding various community fundraisers, including a “Do Good with Burritos” evening July 22 at Chipotle on W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach. Chipotle will donate 33% of profits to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library between 4-8 p.m. that evening when customers mention DPIL to a cashier.
