The Palm Coast Arts Foundation will host the second-annual Shakespeare in the Park with the “Taming of the Shrew” at the PCAF outdoor stage in Town Center. Directed by City Repertory Theatre’s John Sbordone, four performances are scheduled at 6 p.m. Feb. 21, 7 p.m. Feb. 22-23, and 2 p.m. Feb. 24.
Opening night on Feb. 21, will be a special reception with food and drinks and an opportunity for guests to mingle with the actors following the performance. Performances and audience together under the tent of the outdoor stage makes for an intimate theatre experience.
Ticket prices are $25 for PCAF members, $30 general public and $10 students. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.palmcoastartsfoundation.com or by calling 225-4394. The opening night reception is $50 PCAF members; $60 general public. Sponsorships are still available.
During its Jan. 12 general meeting, held at Pine Lakes Golf Club, American Association of University Women Flagler awarded Olivia Norman with its scholarship for the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, three-day event held at the University of Maryland, according to a press release.
Since 2013, Lorrie Blue-Angle, AAUW Flagler’s Daytona State College Partnership Chair, and her committee, have worked with DSC staff to identify potential candidates for this opportunity. This year’s recipient, Olivia Norman, is dual-enrolled at Matanzas High School and Daytona State College Flagler/Palm Coast Campus. With an anticipated graduation date of May 2019, Norman wants to combine her interest in microbiology with her passion to improve medical conditions around the world. While attending high school in Palm Beach Gardens, Oliva organized a political science club and is looking to do the same at DSC.
National Audubon Society executive David Ringer, who was on the front lines of the 2010 BP oil spill for Audubon, will speak about humans’ impact on birds and how people can work together to protect their future at the city of Palm Coast’s upcoming Birds of a Feather Fest, according to a press release.
Ringer’s free keynote lecture, “Protecting Birds Together, Today and Tomorrow,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE. The program is free, but participants are asked to register in advance at https://www.birdingfest.com.
“Decreasing numbers of birds or a particular species can tell us much about an ecosystem and how it’s doing,” birder Jason Giraulo, the city's digital communications coordinator, said in the press release.
Ringer previously served as Audubon’s national communications director, and before that as Audubon’s communications director for the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi Flyway. He was Audubon’s front-line public relations manager in Louisiana during the BP oil disaster.
The fifth-annual Birds of a Feather Fest will be held Feb. 7 to 10, offering guided birding trips, workshops, social events and family activities for both beginners and experienced birders. Visit www.birdingfest.com for the schedule and to register for Ringer’s talk and other activities.

The Palm Coast Fire Department would like to warn residents of a telephone scam solicitation for donations for the Palm Coast Fire Department, according to a press release.
The Palm Coast Fire Department and its partners, the Palm Coast Volunteer Fire Rescue Inc. and the Palm Coast Professional Firefighters Local 4807, would never call residents soliciting a donation. The Palm Coast Volunteer Fire Rescue Inc. biennial fund drive is a mail campaign scheduled for early 2020.
