Etta Blonsick has come to our office on Florida Park Drive since the early days of the newspaper. She has always been kind to me and is a thoughtful person. We happened to be in the same restaurant for lunch the other day, so I asked if I could sit at the next table.

“You know, Etta, I couldn’t help but notice your name in the real estate transactions in the newspaper the other day,” I said.

“Everybody saw it, Brian."

Come to find out, not only did Etta sell one four-bedroom home and buy a two-bedroom home in the same week, she did it the same Monday in April. Not only that, but with the help of her friends at the VFW, she also moved in that evening.

“It can be done,” she said. She pulled two business cards from her purse and showed me the real estate agents who helped her: Rosalie Doreste and Carol Smith, from Coldwell Banker.

To prepare for the move, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary helped her pack up on a Friday. She also had a garage sale, but it was too hot to have it in the garage, so they did it in her living room. "I didn't mind," she said.

All this was accomplished while Etta is undergoing radiation treatment for cancer.

She said again: “It just shows if you need to get it done, you can get it done."

Her view of the sale was one of optimism: “It just shows you that houses are moving here in town.”

The move was a month ago, and she still has one suitcase of clothes to unpack — because she didn’t have enough hangers to put them in her closet. She admittd that she gave away too many hangers (and a TV and many other things) to the Hospice House, a thrift store in Palm Harbor Shopping Center that benefits the homeless. So, she had to go back and buy the same bunch she had donated: Twelve for a dollar.

Thanks for having lunch with me, Etta. And thanks for being an example of a caring, thoughtful person in Palm Coast.
