After pushing the accelerator pedal rather than the brake, a woman drove into the wall of a business in Flagler Beach on the afternoon of Monday, April 16, according to a charging affidavit released by the Flagler Beach Police Department.

Channing Joy Nelson, 23, of Flagler Beach, was parked at the 7-Eleven at 408 S. Oceanshore Blvd. when she drove her 2007 Honda van over the parking barrier, the sidewalk and into the wall just north of the front door of the business. Damage to the wall was observed, but no structural damage was done and no one was on the sidewalk at the time, according to the report.

While an officer issued Nelson two citations, the officer noted Nelson’s odd behavior. She was using the wall of the store as a support, and the officer could smell an odor consistent with an alcoholic beverage on her breath.

While conducting a DUI investigation, the officer observed Nelson swaying when standing without support. Nelson had difficulty following directions and keeping her balance during several exercises.

Nelson was issued a DUI citation with property damage.
